The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government announced the closure of all colleges and universities in the upper regions until August 25, 2025, due to heavy rains, landslides, and cloudburst risks.
The Education Department said the decision aims to protect the lives of students, faculty, and staff, as the ongoing severe weather and sudden downpours could create hazardous conditions across high-altitude areas.
Authorities added that, wherever possible, online teaching and learning activities will continue, ensuring students can keep up with their studies despite the temporary closure of educational institutions.
KP Education Minister Meena Khan Afridi assured students and parents that authorities are committed to providing necessary facilities, emphasizing that no academic disruption will occur due to the adverse weather conditions.
The closure covers all government and private colleges and universities in the mountainous regions, with officials continuously monitoring weather updates to decide on any further extensions if heavy rains persist.
Officials also urged students, staff, and the public to avoid unnecessary travel and follow local administration guidelines to stay safe during periods of intense rainfall, potential landslides, and flooding in the region.
