ISLAMABAD: Two people including a minor girl were killed and seven other injured in firing by Indian forces at the Working Boundary, said an Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) statement on Monday.
“Due to Indian unprovoked firing on Sunday night, a civilian, Muhammad Latif of village Janglora, and a minor girl, Haniya, age one-and-a-half, embraced martyrdom while seven civilians were injured,” a military statement said.
It said the Punjab Rangers gave a befitting response to the Indian unprovoked firing in Harpal, Pukhlian and Charwah sectors on the Working Boundary. Intermittent exchange of firing continued throughout night, the statement added.
The injured civilians were shifted to the Combined Military Hospital, Sialkot.
Security sources said that Pakistan launched a strong protest with India over unprovoked firing at the Working Boundary and demanded an investigation into the incident.
Meanwhile, an Indian soldier was killed after he received splinters from a mortar shell fired by Pakistan rangers, Danish Rana, inspector general of police for the area, told AFP.
“The boy and the BSF soldier died during the intense exchange of small arms fire and mortars throughout the night along the border,” Rana said. ‘Six other civilians were also injured during the exchange of fire,” another Indian police officer, requesting anonymity, told AFP.
